Have a Lovely Weekend. | Cup of Jo

pizza baby

What are you up to this weekend? I’m going to the North Fork to hang with friends — looking forward to eating kettle chips while the sun sets — and then coming back for the boys’ sports games on Sunday morning. (That sports mom life!) Hope you have a good one — take gentle care — and here are a few links from around the web…

Wow, these wedding photos.

Found the best layering tank for summer. (Also a great-fitting tee!)

Who wants some green pizza?

My son’s preschool graduation speech. “Today I stand before you unsure as to what is happening. You are all here, you are taking videos, some of you are crying, and you are telling us you are proud of us. And I know, in my heart, it likely means, at the end of the day, I will get ice cream.”

Getting my summer style inspiration from this movie.

This documentary on the 1980s “Brat Pack” looks compelling. (Think: Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Charlie Sheen, Demi Moore…”

Michelle Obama’s mom, Marian Robinson, died this week, and I loved reading about what she told her children: “Don’t worry about whether anybody else likes you. Come home. We’ll always like you here.”

Sally Rooney has a new book coming out!

Always up for potato salad (or any form of potato).

Hahahaha.

Today on Big Salad, Peyton Dix, the brilliant writer and podcaster, tells us the song to play if you want to fall in love. Also, her favorite shorts, the best movie ever made, and a sexy…pen? She made us laugh exactly 18 times. Read the issue here, if you’d like. (paywalled)

Plus, three reader comments:

Says Ashley on what do you think happens when you die: “I’m a chaplain in pediatric oncology, and I try to be appropriately honest with my six-year-old when she asks about my work. She has lots of questions about dying, and what I tell her is this: ‘When we die, our bodies feed the earth so more life can grow. Our love stays in the hearts of the friends and family that love us. There is no place, in life or in death, that we are not surrounded by love bigger than this world and longer than our lives.’ Now when she buries dead bugs she says, ‘Don’t be scared! You are loved! I love you!’”

Says Katy on three ‘Parent Trap’ looks on my summer moodboard: “Parent Trap was one of my favorite movies when I as a kid. I made my six-year-old watch it with me a few weeks ago, and five mins from the end, he asks, ‘When are they going to trap the parents?’ It was apparently VERY disappointing that there was no physical trap (falling in a pit, cages, etc).”

Says Kat Selah on four fun things: “Joanna, I just have to say how much I treasure your recommendations. I know the whole internet feels this way, but it’s just like having the coolest sister who pre-knows the answers to all the questions I didn’t know I had. ‘How do I get my kid to enjoy putting on sunscreen?’ ‘Whipped cream screen, of course!’ ‘What do I feed my kids?’ ‘Tuna melt!’ ‘What happens after we die?’ ‘Who the F knows, but we can talk about it and (virtually) cuddle!’ What is also perfect is, I love allllll the recommendations, and also, our fashion senses are totally different. So, it’s a great opportunity for, ‘Good for her, not for me!‘ I’ve read this blog every single day for the past 10 years, and it never ceases to fill me with joy, wonder, and gratitude. Not a sentiment I usually feel on the internet.” [Ed. note: Thank you so much, Kat. Sobbbbb!]

Have a good one. xoxo
